Assistance
The journey from diagnosis of head and neck cancer, through treatment, and then, through dealing with the effects of the treatment is staggering. Those saddled with the diagnosis will go through experiences, feelings and a sense of helplessness they never imagined. Those who suddenly find themselves in the role of caregiver have no idea what it will take. Far too many are ill equipped with the knowledge to tackle this endeavor without some type of help. It takes everything you have and more.
The Warriors and caregivers of our group understand what you are going through because of our first-hand experience. We have dealt with the issues of doctor visits, dental guards, peg tubes, chemo, radiation, swallowing, weight loss, fatigue, hearing loss, lymphedema, FMLA, income loss, incapacitation, spirituality, speech therapy, blood tests, pet scans, sepsis and the list goes on and that is just for those with the cancer. The caregivers will find themselves assuming the roles of medics, transportation providers, note takers, decision makers, nurses, drug organizers, shoppers, home organizers, spirit lifters, night guardians, food dispensers, and so many more roles. It is daunting.
We are especially concerned about those dealing with cancer who lack the support network they will certainly need. We understand the caregivers may need some help and an occasional mental health break. We are just starting out, but have high ambitions. Support is the goal of our group.
Somehow, we survived, and if you are going through this now, so can you. If you need medical advice, speak with your doctors. We are not professional health care providers, licensed counselors, or anyone like that. If you just want to talk to someone and share experiences, contact us. We hope to establish partnerships with various cancer centers, radiologists, medical service providers, governmental agencies and charities to expand our support offerings. In the meantime, we have assembled a few things that you might find helpful. Check out our site.
